BOBA.
It is what I refer to breastfed children like mine. My daughter was part of BOBA until she was 3.5 years old. My son, at 18 months, is the pinnacle of a BOBA member and intends on being one till he can drive.
So what exactly is BOBA? BOBA stands for "Boobie Obsessed Babies of America" You know your child has become a charter member when they:
1. Yell "titi!" in the grocery store when they spy a pink, deflating balloon
2. Try to fish out a nipple while you are trying to fill out pediatrician forms (that are generally 10 pages long)
3. Pull pasta off your plate (which you are trying to eat) while nursing in your lap at a fine restaurant
4. Get all week in the knees and smiley when you step out of the shower
Yes, at some point we nursing moms all find out that we have children who have enrolled in BOBA. But be proud of your BOBA kids! It is a sign that you are a great nursing mom. A mom that understand this little mini-me and knows that responding to their needs when they are small bolsters their own self confidence when they are older.
Breastfed, Attachment-Parented babies will grow up to be the kids who are secure in themselves. They are the ones who won't follow the crowd because they need to feel like they belong. They are the ones who will lead the crowd or blaze their own, unique trail. BOBA members develop into solid, strong, healthy adults.
So celebrate your local BOBA member and remember - membership doesn't last forever*. If it did, CEOs on wall street would still be nursing!
*Disclaimer: BOBA male babies may enroll in BOMA (Boobie Obsessed Men of America) at some point in their life. No worries though - only half of BOMA members were BOBA members as kids, so nurse as long as your little boy (or girl) wants!
Cheers and Happy Breastfeeding!
Peace-Love-Boobies!

Ha ha -- Julia laughs and claps her hands when I take the breast out, and she hums while she nurses. How about: 5. they root like a truffle pig in their sleep and grunt "mum mum" until they latch.
ReplyDeleteI nursed Marney until she was 2.5 (she called it "Mommy juice" and turned 15 yesterday) and will hopefully nurse Julia at least as long.
